Here is a nice lot of mementos from better, much less poisonous years in American politics. Pictures speak for themselves. JFK-a genuine Navy war hero, murdered in Dallas when I was a 6th grader. George McGovern-a World War 2 bomber pilot like my own dad; and a true patriot who had the combat-earned credentials to truthfully, forcefully, oppose that wretched, awful war in SE Asia started by LBJ and furthered by Nixon. Also first presidential candidate I was old enough to vote for. Jimmy Carter was the second and, living then near Eugene Oregon, I joined Lane County Democratic Party to work on his local campaign. Jimmy, a bright, newly minted Annapolis grad, was among those young officers selected by Admiral Hyman Rickover to create today’s ‘nuclear navy’ after WW2. Now he’s gone in his 100th year, our longest living president. Anyhow, a wholly different time, faded into history. Maps depict two of Nebraska’s best Democrat governors.
