I'm selling my 1996 Passat and am hoping to find a good home for it. It's got tan cloth seats inside with a black dash and a dark green exterior.
I bought it with 198,000 miles (it currently has a little over 246,000) and have had all work done on it by Papillion Foreign Motors. They've used Valvoline Euro spec MST 5W-40 and I've been consistent with having the oil changed about every 5,000 miles. I'm selling the car mainly because the shop is moving away from working on European brands.
The good: no rips or tears in the cloth seats, the headliner doesn't sag and the dash is uncracked and unscratched. The radio and CD changer are fully functional and interior lights and switches all work. The AC also works great. Headlights and exterior lights are all also all intact; the car shifts smoothly and the clutch is strong. I haven't calculated the gas mileage in a while, but I believe it averages between 45 MPH in town and 50 MPH on out-of-town trips. All in all, the interior's in really good shape and the car runs well.
The not-so-good: the paint is starting to flake a bit, mostly on the hood, and the clear coat is starting to peel there too. There are scratches on the trunk lid (where I attach my bike rack) and there's a patch of rust starting to form over the right rear-wheel well. The near-term to-do list includes the replacement of the oil cooler gasket, drive belt and tensioner and breather hose. Also, the cruise control has never worked (I've never checked into parts/cost to fix it.)
What you should know: Recently, the guide piece for the driver's side window is no longer keeping the window in its track so I've been leaving it rolled up all the way. Also, the shock mount on the rear-right side is blown and will need to be replaced immediately.
Asking $2,200 or best offer.
(Also, if you have questions about anything I didn't cover, don't hesitate to ask.)
Thanks!
