Dimensions shown include the tallest part of the headboard and footboard. The total length of 97" includes the curves for the headboard and footboard that you will need to account for but it fits a standard king mattress (76'x80") and supposedly fits a California king mattress (72'x84") but I have not needed it to.
The height of the headboard is 54" at the center point. The height of the footboard is 41" at the center point.
