This Mac Pro runs great with the original software + extras, under El Capitan installed by Digital Dot here in Omaha. I do not have OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) which runs much newer versions like Sonoma (14.x) and sources say even Tahoe (2025). It will also run any distro of Linux in addition to the installed OSX 10.11.6 (El Capitan).
I have a Fedora 43 / Plasma 6.4 HDD but I played around too much getting my files off to backups and it no longer boots. I had a local freelance CompTIA A+ computer tech from here get it all straight with the drivers, and he provides a great value. I will provide you, at your request, a 16GB Rescuezilla Live USB (2.0), to prove to you that the machine handles Linux, and will get you started with easy installation if you choose. For this price, the best deal on auction sites gets you: no CPU, no HDD, no OS and no way to connect a monitor, nor free delivery(pickup) and no insurance (the priceless benefit of buying locally!)
The 2 TB disk that boots El Capitan is wiped—a process that runs the hdd hot, so I will include another old 1TB hdd, reformatted, for you to clone onto if you want help getting started with securing that OS against loss/failure. My new SSD I used for this 3,1 is now repurposed, but I can tell you ANY SSD you choose will run terrific on this machine.
If you need a junk monitor to get this started, I have a 22” Toshiba LED TV for $5. It works fine, but the scaling is off while using the included ATI accelerator. I can also provide the original aluminum full-size keyboard in newish condition for an additional $10.
